Tromso, Norway

Though Tromso is located north of the Arctic Circle, it maintains a mild climate thanks to the warmer waters carried by the North Atlantic Gulf Stream. Arctic voyagers often commence their adventures in the city, also known as the Paris of the North. Several highlights of sightseeing tours are Norway's largest planetarium, the town's historic center with its beautiful wooden houses and the landmark Arctic Cathedral, designed by Jan Inge Hovig. Tromso is a prime locale for viewing the northern lights and other phenomena like summer's midnight sun and the polar night that dominates between November and January.
